At a time when our local papers are filled with stories about heroin overdoses and teen suicides, I believe Purposeful Parenting becomes an extremely important topic. For me, one of the keys to Purposeful Parenting is communication. Families need to maintain an open line of communication where their kids are comfortable expressing how they feel and parents are truly listening and understanding those feelings. Acknowledging and helping our kids work through their feelings isn't always easy, but it helps them become more self-assured and independent.
